Standard SharePoint Column vs. NITRO Managed Column

Hello, when building a form what is the difference between choosing a "Standard SharePoint Column" vs. "NITRO Managed Column"? What magic am I unleashing if I choose a NITRO managed column over a standard SharePoint column?

You can read it here: NITRO Forms update – NITRO Managed Columns – Crow Canyon Software Forum – Crow Canyon Software Support. Essentially, you can have an unbound control on your form that you can use for processing temporary data.

I'm using the Managed Columns - Choice multi select and I can see the benefit of them. My question is, if I have the column displayed as checkboxes, how can I script buttons to select some or all of the checkboxes? I can get the elements with jquery but I can't get them to check/uncheck.

Figured it out. I was able to do it with a Yes/No and a Form Event Action to set the value of the field as 2;#Dept1;#4;#Dept4;#5;#Dept5 and so on
